WHY FILM PHOTOGRAPHY & HOW I INCORPORATE IT INTO YOUR WEDDING DAY

When you think about your wedding photos, you want them to feel more than just documented… you want them to feel alive. You want to look back and feel the warmth of the sun, the emotions in the air, and the depth of each moment. That’s exactly what film photography brings to your wedding day. There’s an artistry to film that goes beyond just taking pictures — it’s about capturing an experience, a feeling, a memory in its purest form. In this blog, I’ll share why I’m passionate about film photography and how I incorporate it into your wedding to create a collection of images that feel timeless, intimate, and real!

Why I Choose Film Photography

There’s something about film photography that just keeps me inspired. It allows me to slow down, be present, and truly savor the art of capturing weddings. Every frame is intentional. Every click of the shutter forces me to think deeply about composition, light, and the story I’m telling. There’s no instant gratification — just the delightful anticipation of seeing the photos a few days later, reliving the emotions and moments in their raw, tangible beauty.

Shooting film isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about building trust and confidence, both in my craft and in the couples I photograph. The nature of film lends itself to authenticity, stripping away distractions and allowing me to focus on the connection between two people. It’s less about me as a photographer and more about the emotions, the intimate exchanges, and the unguarded moments that make a wedding day so special.

How I Incorporate Film Into Your Wedding Day

Incorporating film into a wedding day isn’t a separate process — it’s woven into everything I do. From getting ready to the final dance, I use film to capture details, portraits, and those in-between moments that feel fleeting but hold so much weight. My digital camera is always on hand for the fast-paced parts of the day — ceremonies, family group shots, and super low-light situations — but film is still there, sprinkled throughout, offering a layer of nostalgia and depth that digital simply can’t replicate.

The first images my couples see from their wedding day are their film scans. These are my version of “previews,” and I love the reaction they get. There’s something special about seeing those first images come to life, knowing they were created with so much care and intention. Film photography isn’t just a tool, it’s an experience. With only 36 shots per roll, every frame carries weight, making each moment feel even more significant.

I believe in the beauty of both film and digital photography. Each has its place, and together, they create a wedding gallery that is seamless, rich, and deeply personal. My job isn’t just to document — it’s to preserve the way your wedding day felt. Film helps me do that in a way that is timeless, emotive, and undeniably real.
